July 2024 Edition

Hello, Writers!

This month I have an informative video for you from Reedsy. You can find it here, down below the Inspirational Quote of the Month. Author Caroline Leavitte gives her advice on what it takes to get published. Leavitt is the recipient of a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Fiction, and an honorable mention for the Goldenberg Fiction Prize. She was also a National Magazine Award Nominee in Personal Essay, a finalist in the Nickelodeon Screenwriting Awards, and a finalist in the Sundance Screenwriters Lab. So, perhaps there is something to be learned from her experiences.

As a reminder, coming up this Saturday, July 20th (the third Saturday of the month) we have Julie Pitzel hosting the Saturday write-in from 3pm to 5pm. For your convenience here is the zoom meeting link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87293345121?pwd=RGFxVjA4Mkd2Z0FCY2J6b09EUSswdz09 . You can also RSVP for the event here and you will receive the Zoom link in the confirmation email. Becky is still leading the Monday and Wednesday morning write-ins at 9:30 am. Register using the events tab across the top of the website to receive the login. It's the same as the Saturday one, too. In case you decide to attend at the last minute.

The in-person speaker event last month was well attended and we have another good event planned for you again in July. On July 24th, Terry Fischer will talk about how to write a mystery and other writer's craft elements. See the Event for more details and to RSVP. These Events are FREE and feel free to bring a friend or two with you. If you have suggestions to assist Debi in engaging speakers, please contact Debi Fairchild directly.

Stay cool!

- Kelley

Inspirational Quote of the Month:

“Writer’s block is a misnomer and can be compared with turning off a faucet. Like the ability to write, faucets can develop problems when they’re seldom used. You get all this rust in the pipes. When you turn on the faucet, a lot of rust comes out.” — Susan Neville
