BAWL & Friends Newsletter

October 2024 Edition

Hello, Writers!

The season of holidays is upon us, a time of inspiration and creativity. Are you ready to dive into the world of writing?

Next month is NaNoWriMo. NaNo had non-writing drama last year as some participants had concerns about what was happening on the forums and beyond.  You can google the details or read what was said about it on REDDIT here. There is drama already this year as well; you can read about it here. I share this information about the negative side of NaNo to make you fully aware of the matter so you can make your own informed decision. BAWL does not support NaNo in any way. We are writers; it's a writers' web challenge, and that's it.

Last year, a NaNo feature sparked discussions and inspiration within BAWL. In response we scheduled a daily meetup for those participating in the challenge in order to provide a supportive and collaborative environment. This year, we're open to creating a support circle if there's enough interest. If you're keen on this, you can contact editorbawl@gmail.com, reply to the post in our Forums, or RSVP to the Event. Your participation can make a difference.

The feature this month is regarding BAWL's Features. Please read all about our effort to open submissions to all members. All members are welcomed, encouraged, prompted, and begged (?) to submit an essay, a poem, a piece of flash fiction - whatever you'd like. Read the Feature this month to learn more.

Take care, and keep writing!

Inspirational QuoteS of the Month:

"September slipped by into a gold and crimson graciousness of October."

- Anne of Avonlea

“Why am I compelled to write? . . . Because the world I create in the writing compensates for what the real world does not give me. By writing I put order in the world, give it a handle so I can grasp it. I write because life does not appease my appetites and anger . . . To become more intimate with myself and you. To discover myself, to preserve myself, to make myself, to achieve self-autonomy. To dispell the myths that I am a mad prophet or a poor suffering soul. To convince myself that I am worthy and that what I have to say is not a pile of shit . . . Finally I write because I’m scared of writing, but I’m more scared of not writing.”

– Gloria E. Anzaldúa
