BAWL & Friends Newsletter

April 2025 Edition

Hello, Writers,

Thank you to everyone who attended the March 26th in-person meeting hosted by Kate Sanger, with Ky Adams as the key speaker. Her presentation was excellent, and she had some great books to give away to audience members.

This month's in-person meeting will occur on April 30th at the Freeman Library in the 2nd-floor conference room from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The speaker for this event will be Leslie Lindsey Davis. Davis is a bestselling author of nearly 20 books and the co-founder of Self-Publishing Solutions. She has sold over 15,000 books and helped hundreds of authors.

The meeting may be attended online and in person at the library. Please register for the Event to be sent the login and learn more about LL Davis.

Elections will take place during the meeting as well.

For President, we have Kate Sanger, who has submitted this for your consideration:

Howdy! I want to announce my run for President of BAWL. My name is Kate Sanger, and I was first a member of BAWL back in 2004, taking on positions including membership chair, newsletter editor, coordinator for monthly mini-workshops, and even President for two years. While I was forced to take time off for medical issues, I’ve found BAWL again and would love to return it to its heyday before COVID shut down in-person events and derailed plans. At this point, I’ve helped to start a twice-monthly critique group and monthly speaker meetings. I also plan on helping with the yearly anthologies and would love to start quarterly workshops. I would love to, once again, help BAWL achieve its goal: to join with and aid writers seeking to strengthen their skill set, either with the craft itself, or with the business of writing, or both.

Kate is unchallenged for President. No one has stepped forward for any of the other positions. Since she is unchallenged, Becky Ellisor will remain Treasurer.

As a reminder, voters must be paid members and be in attendance.

Becky Ellisor has written the Feature this month which is about volunteering. If you are interested in submitting a feature for May, please send the final draft to editorbawl@gmail.com

This is a reminder that the Saturday Afternoon Write-In is this weekend, April 19th. Julie Pitzel hosts this write-in on the third Saturday of each month, both online and in person, at Friendswood Library, 416 S. Friendswood Dr., 77546. Julie prefers to communicate via Facebook, and the Facebook link is below.

Happy Writing!
