Hello, Writers,
I hope all of you mothers had a lovely Mother's Day weekend.
During the April 30th in-person meeting, Kate Sangar was elected President of BAWL. Congratulations to Kate. Please join in welcoming her to this role reprisal.
This month's in-person meeting will occur on the last Wednesday of the month, May 28th, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The location will be the Friendswood Public Library in Baker Room 2. This is a location change due to scheduling conflicts. Sign up for the Event. The speaker will be J. A. Guynn.
J.A. Guynn lives in Alvin, Texas. When he is not writing, he enjoys reading a variety of genres and watching movies with his librarian wife. J.A. Guynn is an avid desktop gamer. He is a Bay Area Writers League member and has participated in writing panels as a moderator and panelist at BrazCon. The online journal, Setu, has published two of his flash fictions. “I sell books at cat shows. Why? First, because I show cats, so it’s an environment I’m comfortable in, but also because it gives me a chance to present my books to people who may not attend author or book events. Finding unique events to sell your books can lead to sales you might otherwise never have made."
The Critique Group events are also moving to Friendswood Library. The events have been updated on the website.
2025 BAWL Anthology
If you have ever wanted to see your writing published with your name on it, now is your opportunity. As a service to members and the Houston area community, BAWL will publish an anthology of short stories, essays, flash fiction, and poetry in December 2025. You do not need to be a member of the Bay Area Writers League to submit for publication.
We’re looking for input on a topic. The last anthology’s theme was Space. What should it be this year? Please check out the Facebook page (link below) and reply to the pinned post with your idea or email the BAWL Editor. A theme will be chosen by June 1.
Prior anthologies are available in print as well as on Kindle. Buy a copy to see the quality and type of writings we accept. Available from Amazon. You can also see them here on our Past Anthologies webpage. The Anthology rules page will be updated as soon as they are finalized.
As a submitter, you will see your name as the author and receive valuable editing suggestions from our editorial board, so your work will be the best it can be.
The feature this month is three poems written during the morning write-ins. Our features are created by you. If you are interested in submitting a feature for June, please send the final draft to editorbawl@gmail.com by June 7th, 2025.
Happy Writing!
