    About BAWL Write-In Events

Our 2025 Write-in events are a set time to write with other writers; Every Monday and Wednesday morning plus the 3rd Saturday of each month.

A write-in can break writer's block, build confidence, inspire that creature in your brain that has to write and has fallen out of the habit, help you share your thoughts with people who have been there, or a write-in will call out your muse if she is hidden or lost. Write-ins can help stalled writers.

This is why Write-ins have been a part of the Bay Area Writers League for many years. It keeps you trying, even if it is the only time you write. Life often gets in the way of creativity, no matter the field you want to work in. Visual artists often paint or draw together: to learn from each other and be inspired to continue practicing their craft. At a write-in, writers do the same.

This is an online meeting. Once you register you'll receive a Zoom link in a conformation email. Simply click that link to join the meeting.

Guest Speaker for October: Alexander Marriott

Alexander Marriott is the Department Chair of History at Alvin Community College and has published articles and reviews in The Objective StandardThe Journal of the Early Republic, The Journal of Southern History, and the Southwestern Historical Quarterly in addition to his contributing chapter on the Mexican War in James K. Polk and His Time: Essays at the Conclusion of the Polk Project (University of Tennessee Press, 2022). He published his first mystery novel, The School of Homer, in February 2023.

Murder with a Glass of Malvasia follows Virgil Colvin, the retired Chicago homicide detective we met in School of Homer, to the stunning and cloistered remains of the Byzantine castletown of Monemvasia in Southeastern Greece where, once again, he finds himself surrounded by murder.

Marriott grew up in the Chicago suburbs and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He lives in Houston with his wife, Maryam, and two children, Mani and Roxane. He is a member of both the Crime Writers' Association and Mystery Writers of America.
